Non-profit Land Trusts
Donating or Selling Land To Non-Profit Land Trusts
We are fortunate to have several non-profit conservation land trusts in the Heritage Corridor. These are local organizations, run primarily by local conservation volunteers. Land trusts can be an excellent choice for recipient of your land. They are local organizations who will come to know you and your land, so your restriction won't get lost in the statewide or national shuffle. They also exist specifically for the purpose of protecting and caring for open space, so monitoring restrictions is a priority for them and won't get lost in the press of other types of business.
While funding is typically limited, some land trusts do have or can help to raise funds for protecting important lands. Go to Local land Trust Map and Contact Information for the land trust(s) serving your town.
Connecticut Farmland Trust was established in 2002 to protect working farmland through the use of agricultural easements. Connecticut Farmland Trust partners with towns and local land trusts to encourage farmland preservation in communities throughout Connecticut. |
